Passing PAYG Internet access

Would be very useful to offer Internet hotspot for passing canal traffic or visitors. I offer a service in Pateley Bridge where visitors can sign up for Internet access at £2/day. Should be fairly easy to add on to a captive portal service - many offerings available.

With minimal 3g service available, could prove incteasingly popular in this day of iPhones etc. If you want to contact, mobile is 07768803758.

Cheers,

A number of moorings around here use Three, some T-Mobile. 3G is pretty much fine-ish.

3-C have some moorings set up, though I think they're using EoM - not completely sure why, except it's 3-C ...

£2/day is ... taking the piss. We don't run a commercial setup, most definately ad-hoc, decentralised and word of mouth as much as possible - on purpose.

Most people are paying about 5-6 quid/month, which they pay direct to their neighbourly host. It's about 35 quid if they need a WRT, more if they need more equipment - whatever it would cost to replace.

We do have a couple of open public spots. Though setting up charging mechanisms would not be completely impossible, the hassle would be something we would have to consider carefully.

More likely to just offer temporary free access for passing people who can be bothered to ask - done it before.

Though it might be worth a try putting up a few notices nearby, just to be friendly and bring people's attention. May even have a trial of allowing open restricted/timed access for pad9.

What sort of PAYG payment mechanisms have you had experience of ?
